Mary Kay and I would like to thank everyone at Norbeck Animal Clinic for all their great care and concern for Ashley. They did a wonderful job.

I brought Ashley home on Friday, August 26, 2011 and had to put her to sleep on Friday, December 23, 2011.

Ashley’s owner was a friend of mine. Ashley would greet me when I rode to my friend’s house on my motorcycle. She would come running and meowing. She was a beautiful cat. She had blue eyes and a black and winter white coat. Her hair reminded me of a German Shepherd. My friend took Ashley in 13 years ago, because the previous owner was going to put Ashley to sleep because she wouldn’t use a litter box. Due to the litter box problem, my friend made Ashley an outdoor cat.

On August 25th, I rode my bike to my friend’s house. I visited with her for a while. When leaving, Ashley came around the corner. She didn’t look good. She was thin and had a nasty cut on her back. My friend and I took her to my vet, Norbeck Animal Clinic.

The vet cleaned Ashley’s back wound and took some blood for tests. The vet prescribed antibiotics and a cleaning solution for her back. Ashley looked so bad, I thought for sure she would have to be put to sleep. My friend couldn’t keep Ashley indoors because of the litter box issue so I offered to take her home.

I set up a large cat cage in our porch so she could look outside. There was enough room for a litter box, her food and two shelves she could sleep on. I wanted Ashley in a confined area where she wouldn’t be bothered by my cats. I also wanted to see the blood test results to make sure Ashley didn’t have any contagious diseases.

The vet called and said Ashley was hyper thyroid and would need daily medication.
She got her medications and recovered from her back injury. She was gaining weight and looked really good. On her follow-up visit to the vet, they were shocked at how good she looked. They couldn’t believe it was the same cat.

Once Ashley recovered and gained weight, I let her out of the cage permanently. She loved exploring the house. She got along well with our other dogs and cats. She really wasn’t bothered with them. She was always following me around the house.

Ashley’s heart starting failing due to her hyper-thyroid condition. We don’t know how long she was hyper-thyroid. That disease does take a toll on the heart, liver, and kidneys.

Unfortunately, we decided it would be best to put Ashley to sleep on Friday, December 23, 2011. I lost a very, very good friend on that day.
